We are a secular Jewish school
and community in Central New Jersey. Our school for children ages 5
through 13 meets Sunday mornings from September to May. The
curriculum emphasizes historical and cultural approaches to the study of
our Jewishness. Our Jewishness
is reflected in our commitment to each other, to Tikkun
Olam, Hebrew for "repair the
world," and to make a shenere un bessere velt, Yiddish for
"a more beautiful and better world." Classes are directed
toward understanding our people's past and enriching our present lives as
Jews.
The weekly program, led by a professional staff of teachers and
administered by our principal, includes the study of our traditions,
history, literature, music, dance, art and language.
While the children are in class, adults meet over bagels and coffee for
weekly discussions on a wide range of topics. Our community also
offers regular educational and cultural programs on Friday evenings.
In our community, Bar and Bat mitzvah ceremonies are as unique and individual
as the students themselves and reflect their own families and individual
Jewish heritages. Some include Torah readings, some have creative and
meaningful rituals written for the occasion, and
many include thoughts and wishes from key members of the child's community.
Because there is no set formula to follow, creating the ceremony becomes
part of each family's ongoing process of exploring how to make their Jewishness relevant and rich. Community members and
leaders are available to guide families through this special time.
Secular
humanistic holiday celebrations involve our entire community -- students,
adults, teens and younger siblings.
We are a Caring Community and offer community support during life cycle
events.
